OF DISTANCE EDUCATION
The
School of Distance Education was established by Kannur University
vide order No. Acad/A1/CDE/6034/2001 dated 22-05-2002. Presently
the School of Distance Education offers the following courses.
The pattern and syllabus of the courses are as that of the
regular courses except internal assessment. In lieu of internal
assessment School of Distance Education has implemented additional
papers. The structure, Eligibility, Procedure, Fees Structure
and General regulations are given below.

NB
:- Candidates seeking admission to the Additional Optional
(Co-operation) need not remit the Admission fee, Affiliation
fee and Matriculation fee.
An
additional fee of Rs. 500/- is to be paid by III B.Com candidates
who have practical classes in computer application.
Candidates
who have passed the qualifying examination from outside the
state of Kerala will have to submit equivalency certificate
of Kannur University at the time of admission.
Candidates
belonging to SC/ST/OEC will be eligible for fee concession,
if they are not employed in Government Public sector or quasi-government
services.
Any
fee paid will neither be refunded nor adjusted towards any
other fees.
Mode
of Payment:- Treasury/SBT chalan. Head of account for remittance
at Treasury in 8658-00-102-96(27 KUS)/at SBT Bank-102-005.
Candidates who reside out of Kerala can remit the fee by way
of Demand Draft drawn in favour of Finance Officer, Kannur
University Payable at Kannur.

Procedure for admission
Application
for admission should be made in the prescribed form. The duly
filled in application form in block letters along with the
following documents in original with one self-attested photocopy
of Pre-degree/plus Two certificate should reach the School
of Distance Education within the prescribed date mentioned
in the admission notification.

Fee
Concession
There
will be no fee concession for OBC candidates. However,
candidates belonging to SC/ST/OEC are eligible for exemption
from payment of tuition and examination fees, if they
are not employed in Government/Quasi-Government /Public
Sector services. The duly filled in application along
with Nativity, Income, Community certificates obtained
from the authorities concerned should be sent to the
Director, SDE, within the stipulated date. In case the
university does not get the amount of Tuition fee and
examination fee reimbursed from the Govt. the candidates
are liable to pay the dame to the university. |
7. |
Any
fees paid by the candidates shall neither be refunded
nor adjusted towards any other payment. |
8. |
Incomplete
applications will not be considered |
9. |
Before
despatching the application the application to the School
of Distance Education, the applicant should make note
of the application number. |
10. |
If
the certificates submitted by the applicant are in any
language other than English/Malayalam, an English version
of the certificate, duly attested by a Gazetted officer
should be enclosed failing which such certificates will
not be considered. |
11. |
If
there is any discrepancy between the information furnished
in the application form and in the supporting documents,
such an application will be summarily rejected. |
12. |
Whenever
the candidate correspondence with the School of Distance
Education, he/she has to quote Enrollment number. Correspondence
without enrollment number will not be entertained. |
13. |
Confirmation
of Admission :
The
School of Distance Education will confirm admission
after scrutinising the application and issue Identity
card which will contain Enrollement Number for eligible
candidates. Students are instructed to keep Identity
card in safe custody till the end of the course.
The
original certificates will be returned along with identity
card. However, one set of Xerox Copies of the original
certificates will have to be submitted to the School
of Distance education by the candidates at the time
of admission. |

No
candidates should register for two courses in the School
of Distance Education simultaneously. |
15. |
Admission
cannot be claimed as a matter of right |
16. |
Personal
Contract Programme (PCP)
Personal
Contract Programme will be conducted for all courses.
The contact Programmes are conducted on Saturdays, Sundays
and other holidays.
The
detailed Programme of Personal Contact Classes will
be sent to the candidates in advance. As far as possible
the PCP will be arranged in the centre preferred by
the candidates. In case sufficient number of students
are not available in a particular centre, SDE has the
liberty to arrange PCP in another centre.
The
classes will be conducted by the teachers of the colleges
affiliated to the universities in Kerala. The method
of teaching adopted in the Distance Education is quite
different from the regular college teaching. The students
are expected to prepare the subjects in advance thoroughly
before coming to the PC programmes. It is desirable
if the students utilise the time to clarify their doubts
in the relevant subject. It is always advisable to attend
the PCP in the best interest of the students themselves. |

Self
– Instructional Materials (SIM)
The
Self-Instructional Materials (Study materials) will
be sent before the PCP. The SIM and other communication
will be sent to the candidates to the address given
by them in the address slips. Any change of address
should be intimated to the SDE in time. |
18. |
The
Students of II and III year course should remit their
course fees for the respective year on or before 30th
June, whether they have taken up the examination or
not. There will not be any separate communication from
the SDE to this effect. If they fail to pay the course
fees, their registration will stand automatically cancelled. |
19. |
Duplicate
Identity Card
The
students who have lost their identity card may get duplicate
Identity card by paying a fee of Rs. 25/- by means of
demand draft |
20. |
Examinations
i.
The application forms for the examination (except
for supplementary examinations) will be sent from the
School of Distance Education with full details.
The
fee for the examination shall be remitted by D.D. (in
favour of the Finance Officer, Kannur University, Payable
at Kannur) and it is to be enclosed along with the application.
The students shall return the filled in application
(first appearance only) for examination to the Director,
School of Distance Education only and not to the Controller
of Examinations
ii.
The Hall Tickets for the university examination
may be obtained from the Chief superintendent of the
Centre of examination during three days prior to the
commencement of examination
iii.
The Centre of examination once selected by the
students will be final. Request for change of examination
centre will not be entertained after submitting the
examination application to the university
iv.
The Marklist of the university examination will
be issued to the students from the examination Centres
after the publication of the concerned examinations.
v.
The application for supplementary examination
should be forwarded to the Controller of Examinations
directly by the students. The School of Distance Education
will not send the application form for supplementary
examinations to the students. |

Re-admission
Students
who failed to remit examination fee and discontinued
their studies may be re-admitted to the course on payment
of Rs. 500/- on or before 10th June. |
22. |
Token
Registration
Degree
course Candidates who have registered for the I/II year
examinations are promoted to the II and III year of
the course. However, those candidates who could not
register for the I/II year examinations may obtained
may obtain token Registration in the month of June for
seeking promotion to the II/III year of the course.
The procedure is that the candidates should apply in
the I/II year examination form with required fee and
a request for token registration stating the reason
for not registering for the examination in time to the
Director, School of Distance education. |
23. |
Completion
of the course
The
students who have enrolled for Degree and P.G. Courses
should complete the course within 5 years and students
of one year course (Diplomas) should complete the course
within 4 years, failing which their registration will
stand automatically cancelled and they have to register
afresh if they want to continue the course. But the
students should have paid the course fees for all the
years of study before the last date specified. |

Degree
Certificate
The
Degree awarded through Distance Education studies is
equivalent to the Degree awarded by the University to
regular college students in all respects.
If
a student qualifies for the Degree he/she (after the
successful completion of the Course) can apply for the
Degree certificate in the prescribed form along with
the required fees to the Controller of Examinations
directly |

Transfer
certificates will be issued to the students of SDE in
completion of the Course or on their discontinuance
provided they apply for T.C. along with their identity
card. |

The
school of Distance Education of Kannur University does
not have agents anywhere in India. Any applications
received through any person/agent other than from the
genuine candidates will be summarily rejected. |

OTHER
REGULATIONS
1. |
A candidate who has registered for the examinations
at the end of the first year shall be permitted to continue
the course of study in the second year. Similarly a
candidate who has registered for the examination in
the second year shall be permitted to continue the course
in the third year class irrespective of the results
of the examination taken by him at the end of the first
and second years. |
2. |
Failed
candidates in part I, II and compartment I of part III
shall be permitted to take the examination only after
they complete the second year course. |
3. |
Examination
for failed candidates for compartment II of part III
shall be held only after completing the third year course. |
4. |
Candidates
who do not secure the minimum pass marks in any of the
papers at the first appearance can re-appear for such
papers at the year end examinations conducted in the
subsequent years. |
5. |
The
schedule for re-appearance is as follows:-
a)
Part I, II & Component I of Part III |
At
the end of the second year (Together with
the first year candidates) third year
or at any year-end examination
thereafter on the relevant subjects. |
b)
Component II of Part III |
At the end of the third year (Together with the
II year candidates)or
at any year-end examinationthereafter
on the relevant subjects. |
c)
Component III of Part III |
At
the year - end examinations in the subsequent
years together with the III
year candidates |

6. |
A
candidate who passes in any division/paper of the examination
under Part III shall not be permitted to appear again
for that division/paper. He shall be allowed to complete
Part III by passing the division/paper in which he had
failed. |
7. |
A
person who has qualified for the Bachelor of Commerce
Degree of the University shall be permitted to offer
a different second language under Part II of the examinations
after a period of one academic year subsequent to his
passing the examination qualifying the degree. |
8. |
A
candidate for the Bachelor of Commerce Degree Examination
who passes parts I and III of the examinations and fails
in Part II Modern language of the examination shall
be permitted to appear for part II of the B.Com. Degree
examination offering a new language under part II, after
the lapse of a period of not less than one academic
year subsequent to qualifying for parts I and III. |
9. |
A
person who has qualified for a Bachelor of Science/Arts
Degree of this university shall be permitted to appear
for part II of the Bachelor of Commerce Degree examination
of this university provided he had undergone the prescribed
course of study in the new optional under the Schools
of Distance Education for a period of two academic years
subsequent to this passing the degree of B.Sc./B.A.
examination. |
10. |
Change
of subjects under part II optional during the middle
of the course will not ordinarily be permitted. However,
in exceptional cases, it may be permitted at the beginning
of the II year. |
11. |
Candidates
who on account of illness are unable to appear for the
whole of the second/final year Degree course after having
applied for the same may be permitted to retain the
marks secured by them at the previous examinations the
results of which are not announced i.e. the first year
examination marks in the case of candidates who could
not appear for the second year examination and the first
year and second year examination marks in the case of
candidates who could not appear for the second year
examination and the first year and second year examination
marks in the case of candidates who could not appear
for the final year Degree examination if they are absent
for the whole examination, and if they apply for cancellation
with a medical certificate from a medical officer of
the rank of at least an Asst. Civil surgeon within two
days from the date of last examination whether written
or practical. |
