activities 2004-05
The
major programmes conducted by the N.S.S. units under this
University are furnished below:
Special
Camps
Special
camp activities of various N.S.S. units included the services
like free medical camp, medical exhibition for school children
and public, distribution of free medicines, free eye testing
camp, blood group detection camp, first aid training, yoga
training, Kudumbasree training programmes for women awareness
programme for women, personality development programmes, classes
on water conservation, digging rain pits, classes on law and
order, socio economic surveys, sanitation, road construction
and cleaning, hospital cleaning, medicinal garden construction,
health awareness classes, film shows house contact programmes,
debates, discussions, cultural exchange programmes, cleaning
f tribal colonies, exhibition of painting on topics related
to N.S.S.
Regular
Activities
Regular
Activities programmes were ‘Gandhi anusmaranam’, Gandhi Jayanthi
celebrations, AIDS awareness classes and rally, Independence
day celebrations, honouring freedom fighters, free medicine
distribution, community Health awareness programmes, nature
camps classes on environment conservation, water conservation,
literary awareness classes blood group identification camps,
N.S.S day celebration, pulse polio awareness classes, observance
of Anti AIDS day and communal harmony day, cleaning of roads
and PHC, maintenance of medicinal garden, campus beautification,
orientation programmes for volunteers, photo exhibition, awareness
programmes on the importance of Panchayat Raj and Grams Sabha,
Cultural programmes, debates, discussion and quizes.
National
Integration Camp
The
University has represented the national Integration camp sponsored
by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of
India, held at Banaras Hindu University from 15th
to 21st July 2004 at Varanasi.
Five
boys and five girls from Government Ayurveda College, Pariyaram
participated in the National Integration camp representing
Kannur University.
Kannur
University team and the Programme Officer were adjudged as
the best by their overall performance
National
Youth Festival
Kum.
S.K. Abida, N.S.S. volunteer of Sir Syed College, Taliparamba,
Kannur has participated in the ‘National Youth convention
and Suvichar’ at Tata Nagar, Jharkhand in connection with
the National Youth Festival from 12th to 16th
January 2004.

Republic Day Camp 2004
Miss.
Sandhya V.N., N.S.S. volunteer of N.A.S. College, Kanhangad
has participated in the one month Republic Day Parade Camp
held at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium New Delhi and participated
in the Republic Day March on 26th January 2004.

Justine K.J, St. Pius X College, Rajapuram has participated
in the Republic Day camp
Pre-Republic
Day Parade Camp
A
pre-Republic day parade camp was held at the Bharathiar University
campus, Coimbatore from 1st to 10th
November 2004, for the selection of the best N.S.S. volunteers
for participating in republic Day Parade camp on January 2005
at New Delhi.
Sri.
M. Unnikrishnan, Government College, Kasaragod, Sri. Manoj
Kumar, N.A.S. College, Kanhangad, Kum. Ranjitha, Government
College, Kasaragod were selected for the participation in
the N.S.S. Republic Day Parade camp at the Jawaharlal Nehru
Stadium, New Delhi.
Lahari
Virudha Campaign – Awareness Workshop
As
a part of Anti-tobacco and Anti-drug campaign, a workshop
has been conducted at Nirmalagiri College, Kuthuparamba under
the auspices of Kerala Lahari Virudha Vedi, Kozhikode in co-operation
with the Kannur University N.S.S cell, and the N.S.S units
of Nirmalagiri College, Kuthuparamba on 29th 3oth
and 31st of October 2004.
Two
N.S.S. volunteers each, from various College have participated
in the workshop.
All
India Inter University Elocution Competition
Miss.
Binshara Meethal Shafi, III B.A. English, Government College,
Kasaragod has been selected to represent Kannur University
for [participating in the 31st Kamalnayam Bajaj
Memorial Inter University Elocution competition 2005 at Shiksha
mandal, Wardha.
National
Level Poster Competition
Sri.
Prakasan N.V, Puthur, Eethukudukka, Kannur has participated
in the National Level Poster Competition at New Delhi on 23rd
September 2004 and won Ist prize which consists of merit Certificate
and Rs. 10,000/- cash prize.
N.S.S.
national Sports Day-Fund Collection
All
the N.S.S. units of this University have collected money by
distributing special stamps among N.S.S. volunteers and send
to the Assistant Programme Advisor, Thiruvananthapuram for
the onward transmission to the Ministry of Youth Affairs and
Sports.
Collection
of Fund towards Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund for
Tsunami Victims
The
Government of India had requested the N.S.S to contribute
towards the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund to help
the Tsunami wave victims. Accordingly, the Programme Officers
of N.S.S. and the volunteers have collected money and contributed
towards the Relief fund.
Programme
Officers’ Meeting
A
meeting of the N.S.S. Programme Officers was held the University
Seminar Hall, Mangattuparamba on 18-10-04 as part of implementation
of Legal Literacy Project and of Kerala State Legal Services
for undergraduate girl students in Arts and Science Colleges
all over the state through N.S.S. units.

Committee and 20 Programme Officers from various Colleges
participated in the meeting.
Legal
Awareness Programmes
As
a part of Legal Literacy Programme of Government of Kerala
, Legal Literacy classes were conducted in Colleges during
the months of July ad August 2004.
A
Committee functioned under the guidance of the Principal,
N.S.S. units in colleges acted as the co-ordinating agencies.
The N.S.S. Programme Officers worked and co-ordinators of
the classes.
Six
Thousand Three Hundred and seventy Eight (6378) copies of
book titled ‘Lessons in Law’ supplied by the State Legal Services
Authority were distributed among the girl students of second
and third year degree courses of the Arts and Science Colleges
in the University in connection with the implementation of
Legal Literacy Project.
it
has been reported from Colleges that the classes have contributed
a great deal in helping the undergraduate girl students to
gain legal literacy which would definitely prove useful to
them ion their career and life.

Gandhi N.S.S Awards 2003-04
The
Government of Kerala have instituted State Level N.S.S. Awards
in order to recognize the meritorious service of the University/Directorate
N.S.S. cell, Programme Officers, N.S.S. units N.S.S. volunteers
in the field of National Service Scheme.
The
selection committee constituted at the University level has
recommended the nominations of Dr. S. Gopakumar, Programme
Officers, Government Ayurveda College, Pariyaram, Sri. Justine.K.J.,
N.S.S. volunteer, St. Pius X College, Rajapuram and Miss Mini
Augustine N.S.S. volunteer, Government Ayurveda College, Pariyaram
for considering for the Indira Gnadhi State Awards 2003-04.
