The Department of Information Technology was established in the year 2000 with the aim to integrate quality education in the field of Information Technology. The Department has advanced facilities for teaching, learning, and research. The Department offers multidisciplinary research opportunities and programs of study at the postgraduate level.

The Department started a 2-year Master of Computer Science programme in the year 2000, which was among the first such programme under the Open Source platform.
The Department started a 3-year MCA programme in the year 2002 and 2-year Lateral Entry MCA programme in 2015to furnish the candidate to do the real time jobs linked with Information Technology and Computer Application. The Department offers MPhil and PhD programmes with the vision to spawn quality researchers and high-impact interdisciplinary research.

With rapidly developing technology and the need for innovation, the Department has produced excellence professionals holding significant positions in the IT industry in India and abroad.
