The project entitled “Isolation and characterization of bioactive peptides from marine fungi and cone snails” was funded by Govt of India for 3 years with a total grant of INR 28.6 lakhs. Nature of work done: Purification and characterization of peptides from cone snails- Conusaraneosus and C. inscriptus and also from marine fungi. A combination of both Mass spectrometric (De novo sequencing) and Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) methods are used to study conus peptides. Novel peptides with post translational modifications have been characterized from C. araneosus and its pharmacological targets have been assigned. HPLC, MALDI-TOF MS, LC-MS etc are routinely used for this study.

Current Research Areas

  1. Industrial Microbiology
  2. Molecular Biology
  3. Microbial Taxonomy
  4. Peptides and Proteins-Structure-Activity Studies.
