The School of Pedagogical Sciences (SPS) is a part of Kannur University. The objective of the Kannur University Act 1996 is to establish in the state of Kerala a teaching, residential and affiliating University so as to provide for the development of higher education. As such the School of Pedagogical Sciences was established in the year 2005 with M.Ed. course and Ph.D. programme in Education. The school got full recognition by NCTE vide Recognition order No F.KL/MED/SRO/NCTE/2005-2006/3168 date 29/09/2005.The school Conducts Post Graduate and Research (Ph.D.) programmes in Education, short term courses and Teacher empowerment programmes. This school, conducts Under Graduate Programmes in Education (B.Ed. Course) at three districts of Kerala (Kannur, Kasaragod and Mananthavady).Now SPS has a student intake of 50 for two year M.Ed. programme from 1st July 2015 onwards. The department has a broad vision for teacher development catering to the need of 21st century India.

 The School of Pedagogical Sciences is situated at Dharmasala near Mangattuparamba campus of Kannur University, which is 18 kilometers away from Kannur Railway Station. SPS had a three storied building with a huge compound and modern facilities for quality teacher education. SPS has sufficient infrastructure facilities comprising of modern information communication technology facilities. SPS provides leadership in teacher education in Kannur University. SPS prepares quality teacher educators for training the prospective teachers for secondary and higher secondary schools.

Learning environment plays a very important role in education process. SPS Campus is a part of Mangattuparamba Campus of Kannur University - a calm and eco-friendly campus with following facilities:

(i) Department Library:

In addition to the University Central Library, here we have a well equipped department library with specialised collections of books, journals and other information sources to support learning, teaching and research processes in the department in the subject field of teacher education. Library collection consists of more than six thousand monographs and around twenty subscribed print journals. A spacious reading room with adequate light and ventilation is provided in library. The process of computerising library services is ongoing by using Koha ILS. Library catalogue (Web OPAC) can be accessible from LAN connected computer terminals within the campus. Internet connectivity is provided for library users. The Department Library is located at the north end in the Second Floor of the School of Pedagogical Sciences Building at Dharmasala Campus. The library is in its beginning stage, but with a good collection of costly books and journals in the field of education, philosophy and psychology. It also provides a spacious and comfortable reading room facility.
