History

Kannur University is located in the northern region of Kerala, and this part of the state is backward in almost all aspects of developments, especially in the field of higher education. Hence one of the main objectives of the establishment of the Kannur University was to take every possible step for the development of higher education. As a part of this development programme, the University started a new postgraduate Physics Department at the Payyannur Campus during the academic year 2003-04 with a total of 15 students. In the beginning, the Department was functioning in a rented building at Moorikkovil, Payyanur and was shifted to the permanent site at Edat, Payyanur with effect from December 2006.
