RUSA–PM USHA Regional Review Meeting Concludes

Kannur: Two-day regional review of RUSA-PM USHA projects concludes at Kannur University. On the second day, the Union Minister of State for Education (Development of the North Eastern Region), Dr. Sukanta Majumdar, participated in the programme online. He stated that the objective of the RUSA–PM USHA projects is to transform universities into centres of research excellence and innovation.

The programme was held at the Senate Hall, Mangattuparamba Campus, where the Principal Secretary, Higher Education Department, Dr. Sharmila Mary Joseph, delivered the keynote address. She presented Kerala’s achievements in the higher education sector and noted that the state serves as a national model in key indicators of excellence in higher education. She also highlighted that the RUSA–PM USHA projects have helped improve college infrastructure and enhance academic standards.

Representatives from various universities in Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, and the Union Territory of Puducherry spoke about the progress achieved under the flagship initiatives of the Ministry of Education—Rashtriya Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan (RUSA) and the PM USHA–MERU projects. This was followed by a review of the ongoing projects under RUSA–PM USHA. Armstrong Pam, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Education (ICC, RUSA), also addressed the gathering.

As part of the programme, a Startup Conclave, Founders’ Meet, and Women Innovators’ Forum were organised at the Thavakkara Campus. KSUM Senior Technology Fellow Vinitha Joseph and Convai Innovations CEO M. Nandakishore spoke at the events. A Social Innovation Hackathon and a Robotics Expo were also conducted.
